How to use Bostik ET-150

Bostik ET-150 Sprayable Vapour Barrier Coating is ideal as a protective barrier coating when carrying out work on areas that may contain hazardous substances such as asbestos. It is commonly used as an asbestos encapsulant, as well as a vapour barrier coating for internal and external insulated piping equipment and air conditioning ducting.

It is important when removing or disposing of any materials containing asbestos that it is done in accordance with current regulations and codes of practice. This is to minimise disruption of fibres, protect the construction workers and anyone else who could be at risk of secondary exposure.

ET-150 is easily applied with a spray or brush, it then dries to form a water-resistant, hard-wearing and flexible finish.

Bostik ET-150 is fire tested and solvent-free, while still maintaining all the protective properties of polymers.

Before starting, check the coverage rates you will require for your project. The best results are achieved by applying the following minimum coverage rates:

Both internal and external applications require two coats at a rate of 3.2m2 per litre to achieve a dry film thickness of 0.5mm.

It is essential to adhere to asbestos regulations when undertaking this type of project. You can find the regulations and more advice on encapsulating asbestos from ARCA here.

Instructions for use:

Preparation:

  1. Ensure your surface is clean, dry and free from dust and oil before starting to apply the Bostik ET-150 vapour barrier coating.
  2. Make sure you have two colours, as it is recommended that you use a different colour for the second coat, so it is clearly visible when a full and even coating has been applied.

Application

Apply the Bostik ET-150 to the entire surface with a spray or a brush, ensuring all cracks and crevices are properly covered.

Internal: Apply two coats, each at a rate of 3.2m2 per litre to achieve a dry film thickness of 0.5mm.

External: Apply two coats, each at a rate of 3.2m2 per litre to achieve a dry film thickness of 0.5mm.

  • Rub the surface gently with a damp cloth to test if your coatings are dry. If no colour rubs off, the layer is dry.
